Late Sunday night, the TRMM MOC experienced severe degradation of the Q-channel science data during the 277/02:44 event which resulted in significant downlinked data gaps (TTR #21424). The cause of the degradation (MI, H/W, lines, etc.) is being investigated. The decision was made not to release the data storage recorder memory until a MOC system problem could be resolved (ER#135) and until an attempt could be made to recover the incomplete data downlink. Unfortunately, sufficient TDRS coverage was not available to avoid a recorder overflow following the lengthy period of time which had already elapsed since the previous nominal event. Below are the times that the recorders were overflowed and were not collecting science data. Please contact me via phone or e-mail if you have any questions, and reference the TRMM Operations Weekly Report next week for any status updates.
