History: The Regional Air-Sea Interactions (RASI) Gap Wind and Coastal Upwelling Events Climatology datasets were created using an automated intelligent algorithm which identified gap wind and coastal ocean upwelling events using two satellite-based microwave datasets. The Cross-Calibrated Multi-Platform (CCMP) ocean surface wind data product was used for wind data while the Optimally Interpolated Sea Surface Temperatures (OISST) data product provided by Remote Sensing Systems was used for sea surface temperatures. Data is available from 1998-2011 for three regions in Central America: Tehuantepec, Papagayo, and Panama. The climatology consists of several parameters that are only available for actual wind or upwelling events, such as the maximum wind speed of a wind event feature, or the maximum SST decrease of an upwelling event feature. For consistency across the climatology, we use a zero value placeholder for these parameters at time steps when there is no current event occurrence. For other parameters, such as the wind speed or SST values in the region's event detection area (referred to as the \"small area\" in the algorithm description), observed values are recorded at each time step - regardless whether there is an event or not. The RASI datasets are products resulting from DISCOVER, a NASA MEaSUREs-funded project. File naming convention: RASI_location_yyyy.nc\" where location = Tehuantepec, Papagayo, or Panama and yyyy = year.
