Land and cloud pixels were removed prior to processing enhancements to reduce pixel confusion. Processing techniques included such methods as iterative self organized data (ISODATA), supervised classification, and band ratios to help identify and enhance areas of higher concentration of suspensates in the water. This raster is one in a series of rasters produced for the Sediment Analysis Network for Decision Support (SANDS) project funded through the NASA Applied Sciences Program. The project is a collaboration between the Geological Survey of Alabama and the Information and Technology Systems Center (ITSC) at the University of Alabama Huntsville. The goal of this project is to enhance satellite imagery to highlight suspended sediment in imagery collected before and after tropical storms and hurricanes in the northcentral Gulf of Mexico. Purpose: This raster was created by staff at the GSA in the Sediment Analysis Network Decision Support (SANDS) project. The SANDS project is a collaborative project between GSA and the University of Alabama Huntsville Information Technology Systems Center and is funded through the NASA Applied Sciences Program ROSES A.28. The project's purpose is to produce an image showing enhanced suspended sediment from satellite data captured before and after tropical cyclones in the north central Gulf of Mexico between 2000 and 2009.
