HS3 AVAPS and HS3 WWLLN datasets are now available at GHRC

The Global Hydrology Resource Center (GHRC) DAAC has published two additional datasets from the Hurricane and Severe Storm Sentinel (HS3) mission.

  • The HS3 Global Hawk Advanced Vertical Atmospheric Profiling System (AVAPS) Dropsonde System dataset provides data from the AVAPS dropsondes built by the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) and used as the dropsonde system for the Global Hawk aircraft during the HS3 campaign. AVAPS dropsondes provide in-situ, high-vertical resolution measurements of atmospheric variables including pressure, temperature, humidity, geographic location, and winds, providing a vertical profile of the atmospheric conditions. DOI: 10.5067/HS3/AVAPS/DROPSONDE/DATA201
  • The HS3 World Wide Lightning Location Network (WWLLN) Storms dataset is a quality controlled subset of lightning data for the tropical storms studied during the 2012-2014 HS3 mission, to track and analyze lightning activity. These data were provided by the World Wide Lightning Location Network (WWLLN), a global, ground-based lightning sensor network operated by the University of Washington in Seattle. DOI: 10.5067/HS3/WWLN/DATA201
