Next Flight Date: 08/18/02

Altus Status: Fly

Hands Off: 11:00 AM EDT (1500 UTC)

Estimated Takeoff: 1:00 PM EDT (1700 UTC)

Estimated Landing: 6:00 PM EDT (2200 UTC)

Daily Objectives:
Investigate isolated thunderstorms in ACES target domain (Everglades and nearby Ocean). The weather looks favorable for late afternoon isolated thunderstorms over the everglades tomorrow.

We were not able to fly today (08/17/02) due to work on the aircraft. During yesterday's maintenance activities, a crack in the intake manifold was identifed and is being replaced. Activity to fully check out the aircraft is substancial so call in to check x-2182 this evening for any additional information. The weather today has been fairly dry and would probably not have been a good day to fly.

Meetings:
9 AM EDT, Weather Briefing and aircraft/payload status.
Mission debrief will occur ~ half hour after landing.

Announcements:
Yesterday was a down day for aircraft maintenance since we flew 5.2 hours on 08/16/02. We had great weather (thunderstorms) yesterday (08/17/02), but it might have been difficult to fly these storms since they were so wide spread and affected the take-off/landing area. There may have been an opportunity in the late afternoon when it cleared up a little in the Boca Chica area. This system was totally unexpected and hence the decision to fly the day prior to 08/17/02.
