Global Hawk Report

·      Aircraft – green

o   No fly day

o   Successful flight to Karl 9/16/2010

o   6 coordinated flights with DC8 over the eye.

o   Had a total of 20 passes over the eye of Karl!!!

o   Used HAMSR data in real-time to help get up to 12 bullseyes on the eye of Karl.

o   Global Hawk left storm at 08:30 UTC.

o   Maximum flight duration is 25 hrs at this time.

·      Droposonde – red

o   Re-fly of Low Altitude test flight and high altitude flights in one day. Must be a weekday and have a chase plane.

o   Pursuing quick and longer-term fixes, availability later this week is uncertain. So, go ahead with any science opportunities.

o   Satisfied with fix, ready to go to Dryden for testing will arrive on Sunday 9/19. 

o   Dates of flight-testing needed.

o   Ground tests to occur 9/20.

·      HAMSR – green.

·      LIP - green

·      HIWRAP – yellow

o   Some noise in 2-channels in the Ka band

o   Analyzing data

WB-57 Report

·      Aircraft - green

o   Takeoff at 16Z for Karl for approximately 5 hour flight duration.

o   Rectangular spiral plan for today.

o   Currently see no storms within range for near future, will be on standby.

·      HIRAD - green

·      NAST-I still delayed – may make it for last week of mission.

DC8 Report

·      Aircraft– green. 

o   17Z takeoff for Karl

o   Plan to get at least one sonde during first pass before landfall.

o   Will morph into butterfly to look at inflow over see, and to fly over land.

o   Saturday hard down.

o   Reassess what will be done after Saturday.

·      LASE – green.

·      LARGE – green.

·      APR2 – green.

·      DAWN – green.  

·      Microphysics – green

o   PIP

o   CSI cannot fly for the duration of GRIP

·      MMS – green.

·      Dropsonde – green. 

Science

·      Work has begun on preparation of charts for NASA HQ briefing.

·      Global Hawk needs table of cloud top height vs. temperature for Thursday flight.

·      Need platform scientist reports.

·      Need priority flight legs submitted.

·      Ramesh needs 2-3 slides by Monday morning for monthly review, needs stats, flight hours for each aircraft, a flight that emphasizes synergy involved. Earl most documented hurricane ever with Karl the most documented genesis situation. Preliminary results showing a synthesis, redevelopment of hurricane after passing over land.
