  • Aircraft – green 
    • No fly on Wednesday
    • Waiting for dropsonde low & high altitude drop test no earlier than Tuesday.
    • Xchat group #GHOPS has been created for use by flight crew across all aircraft.  Intended for DC8 & navigator to pass info to GH Pilots.  Change channel to #PILOTOPS
    • Plane ready
  • Droposonde – red
    • Re-fly of Low Altitude test flight and high altitude flights in one day. Mustbe a weekday and have a chase plane.
    • Need more resources to work on installation - at NCAR
    • Will not be able to fly till Tuesday 9/14/2010
    • Droposonde engineers machining new parts in NCAR/Boulder.

  • Aircraft - red
    • Awaiting repair of canopy seal pump; should be repaired by 9/10/2010
    • Will work repair of three parts Tuesday morning
    • Daily status updates. Hope to have one pump completed today another pump available from Navy supply.
  • HIRAD - green
    • Media day next Monday or Tuesday. (9/13-9/14)
    • Will return to Houston this weekend Sunday (9/12), but will be able to arrive earlier if needed.
    • Wanting to do sky calibration from ground (9/13-9/14/2010)
  • NAST-I still delayed – may make it for last week of mission.

DC8 Report

  • Aircraft– green. 
  • Flight on Tuesday met all objectives
  • Communications to ground kept going in and out
  • Minor maintenance today. Replacement hydraulic accumulator is being shipped as a ground spare..
  • LASE – green.
  • LARGE – green.
  • APR2 – green.
  • DAWN – yellow.  
  • Microphysics – green
    • PIP Probes calibrated yesterday and ready to go.
    • CSI cannot fly for the duration of GRIP
  • MMS – green.
  • Dropsonde – green. 
    • 19 sondes released yesterday with two failed sondes (fast fallers), but the two failed sondes may have recoverable data.
    • Pessimistic Vaisala can deliver more dropsondes in time. Perhaps acquire from NOAA (check compatibility).

Science

Tuesday- Takeoff on 7Sept estimated for 18Z with a science flight and ferry back to FLL. Return time still uncertain.  Could be between 9-midnight EDT

 

            Wednesday  - No Fly Day

              Thursday – Possible science flight DC-8

              Friday – Possible science flight DC-8

 

Ramesh Kakar - Need a synergistic look at Earl for one time period, perhaps when all NASA resources were flying,  and incorporate collaborative efforts with the NOAA aircraft. Provide data from each of the instruments as a viewgraph, mission scientist assemble chart showing synergy between the instruments. This is for Mike Freilichs’ monthly presentation.
