Update, 1100 Z, 24 April 2011

We arrived at SGP at 08Z.  Convection was in place to our south, scattered along an east-west line.  The goal this morning was to get in-situ microphysical data with the UND when anvil cloud was over the SGP, supported by all DOE radars and N-pol. UND was scheduled for a 0930Z takeoff.  A small cell passed to our immediate south with a very small, short-lived anvil over SGP.  We delayed the UND accordingly.  We then focused on another cell coming from the southwest and hoped to catch the leading ahead.  This cell really did not produce an anvil, but rather passed the site as an intact core.  Then we waited for a third wave to come through.  The associated convection died out prior to SGP, and an anvil did come over SGP but again it was considered to be a very short-lived opportunity for joint aircraft/ground based sampling over the SGP.  Therefore we scrubbed the UND.  Thanks to the UND crew for standing by.
