The objective for this flight was land surface moisture data and calibration over the Gulf of Mexico. Both waypoint patterns were flown on previous missions. En route to repeat the soil moisture pattern for a second time in the sortie Offutt Weather forecaster advised of a severe storm approaching during recovery period. The jet was advised to return asap.
