GHRC DAAC and AMSR SIPS hosted visitors from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) on Nov 6-7. Ms. Satoko Miura and Mr. Hiroo Kii are with the JAXA Mission Operations System (MOS) office. Presentations provided an overview of the MOS organization, as well as operations at GHRC and SIPS. Discussions included hardware, software, and operations management, as well as logistics for obtaining AMSR2 Level-1R data from JAXA in near real time for AMSR2 LANCE activities.

Dr. Sara Graves, GHRC’s UAH PI, attended the International Conference on Data Sharing and Integration for Global Sustainability (SciDataCon), co-sponsored by the Committee on Data for Science and Technology (CODATA) and the World Data System (WDS), interdisciplinary committees of the International Council for Science (ICSU). The CODATA General Assembly includes representatives of WDS and the international Research Data Alliance (RDA). Dr. Graves made several presentations at the series of meetings held Nov 2-6 in New Delhi, India:

• “Exploitation of Big Data Using Semantics and Metadata,” keynote address at the International Workshop on Semantics for Data (SeMDAT);
• “Providing Tools and Services for Data Usability as well as Accessibility” presentation, and a poster on GHRC at the World Data System Members’ Forum;
• “Challenges and Benefits of Open Science Data and International Data Sharing” at the SciDataCon session on “The Importance of Provenance in Scientific Discovery.”

Dr. Graves is Secretary General of CODATA, and presided over much of the meeting because the President of CODATA, from China, was not able to attend.

MC3E

GHRC has updated the GPM Ground Validation UND Citation Cloud Microphysics MC3E dataset with corrections of the vertical wind component and liquid water content files for data obtained while flying in ice crystals and mixed phase atmospheric conditions. These measurements were made from a suite of in situ instruments located on the University of North Dakota (UND) Cessna Citation aircraft, an airborne platform for the MC3E campaign.
