MC3E

GHRC published six GPM Ground Validation NEXRAD MC3E radar datasets. These data were collected from April 22, 2011 to June 6, 2011 for the Midlatitude Continental Convective Clouds Experiment (MC3E) which took place in central Oklahoma. Radar sites include KGLD, KICT, KINX, KTLX, KTWX, KVNX. The Next Generation Weather Radar system (NEXRAD) comprises 159 Weather Surveillance Radar-1988 Doppler (WSR-88D) sites throughout the United States and select overseas locations. The GPM Ground Validation NEXRAD MC3E data files are available as tarred binary files.

GHRC has published the Regional Air Sea Interactions (RASI) web site https://ghrc.nsstc.nasa.gov/rasi/, an interactive tool for investigating coastal mountain gap wind events and resulting sea surface temperature changes due to ocean upwelling. RASI provides remote access and browsing of a climatology of gap wind and coastal ocean upwelling events detected by an automated intelligent algorithm developed as part of the DISCOVER project, funded by the NASA MEaSUREs program.

Ken Keiser presented research performed by GHRC and Remote Sensing Systems for the DISCOVER (Distributed Information Services for Climate and Ocean Products and Visualizations for Earth Research) project, funded by the NASA/MEaSUREs program, at the Oceans 2014 MTS/IEEE Conference held in St Johns, Newfoundland, September 14-19, 2014. His presentation described the development of algorithms and processes that are able to automatically identify and catalog coastal mountain gap wind and associated coastal ocean upwelling events. A Regional Air-Sea Interaction (RASI) climatology of these events has been generated and will be made available to researchers and other users through the GHRC.

AMSR-E SIPS logo

Helen Conover, Amy Lin, Kathryn Regner and Sherry Harrison attended the AMSR Science Team meeting September 23-24, 2014 in Huntsville, AL, representIng the AMSR SIPS at GHRC. Helen made two presentations: one on SIPS status including AMSR-E reprocessing and preparations for generating AMSR2 standard products, the other on LANCE AMSR2 implementation activities.
